The use of biochar to bring toxic land back to life for use by the project community was to restore useful farming economic life back to over 1000 families whose livelihood depended on agricultural activities for survival. Though fundraising for this life saving project is quite slow, the project team is very hopeful for its successful implemtation.
The project team, within the reporting time frame, continued with facilitating of collection of crop wastes from farms and communities and sun drying to prepare biochar and accumulate for use in the treatment of the toxic land. Bioichar was made from the biomass (crop waste) as offsite preparation towards convertion of the degraded land to arable land for the project cummunity's use for farming activities. The amount of crop waste collected which could have been dispossed off through burning and poluting the atmosphere with carbon in the form of smoke has been avoided and converted into solid carbon, biochar, which has been stored and will be put into the soil to make the degraded land for useful economic life.
All these activities carried out were made possible with the support from our various donors. The project team is grateful for the generousity of all our donors.
