The Power of Teamwork & Giving Back
This summer we worked hard to develop a new impact measurement surveys to gain a
better understanding of how Between the Lines has impacted family bonds and
recipient children's interest in reading. We gave out this survey at two
of our last readings. Some of the
comments on the surveys:
"It is a very
good thing you people are doing. Keep it up. Every little bit helps
keep these family bonds stronger!"
"Thank you so
much for caring"
"I believe the
program is a very positive influence not only on my child's life, but many
other inmates who choose to participate"
This October, the Between the Lines committee participated in the Junior League of Portland’s biggest fundraising event JLP CAREs Day. As a committee, we chose to
volunteer together at the Artz Center for Developmental Health &
Audiology. Together with other Junior League volunteers, we completed multiple small projects throughout the
facility, including restocking the children’s library and sorting therapy toys
and cleaning equipment. The Artz Centerwas so grateful for the work completed; they provided us with a plaque with
their thanks. Our members felt great giving back such a great organization!
Here is a look at what was accomplished so far this
year:
BTL Book Fair
Our 3rd annual book fair this year was a huge success! It was held at the new Barnes and Noble in Bridgeport Village on December 8th. The day was fun filled with story times, crafts, face painting, shopping and more! We are still calculating final numbers, but have already reached our sales goal that allows us to get 20% back from sales.
Forty-five books were donated directly at the book fair that day, which is fantastic! Along with the Amazon wishlist, we have had close to 100 books donated this Fall alone! What a successful outcome for a day filled with family fun while supporting our work with Oregon children separated from their parents!
Our next reading will be on January 19 at Coffee Creek women's correctional facility in Wilsonville and another is scheduled in April at Coffee Creek as well. We continue to work hard in trying to expand our efforts in hopes to reach more families in need.
A huge THANK YOU to all of the amazing people who made this kind of community impact possible: committee members, volunteers, donors, and supporters – you all make such a difference!
