TV series for transforming education

By Cecilia Cretin | Fundraising Manager

In Benin, there are many difficulties for girls during their schooling: less access to education, discrimination, violence, sexual abuse, etc.
Despite a significant reduction in the gap between girls' and boys' school attendance rates at national level, there are still major disparities between regions. Girls and boys are still treated very differently at school, resulting in numerous inequalities. Another finding is that the higher the level of education, the lower the proportion of girls.

The "A better school for girls" programme is part of Benin's national strategy to transform education and aims to contribute to quality education for all, specifically for girls, and to ensure their safety and well-being at school.

The programme trains teachers, their pedagogical advisers, education managers, social workers and parents in positive attitudes and methods of education that value girls and boys.

The new serie"Le rêve de Kadi" (Kadi's dream) was produced as part of the programme in collaboration with the Ministry of Maternal and Primary Education (MEMP) and the Ministry of Social Action and Microfinance (MASM).

The series is broadcast on national television to raise public awareness of the need to transform education at school and at home. Enabling girls to have a quality education, free from discrimination and violence, is essential. At present, girls and boys are treated very differently, which creates inequalities.

At the end of the year, a second phase of the programme will begin, with the training of 800 teachers in activities to promote more egalitarian and inclusive education in the classroom. This will also include raising awareness of gender equity among 1,600 parents.

We remain more than ever mobilized so that girls can have equal access to full-quality education. To this end, we would be most fortunate to count you as one of our loyal donors again this year.
