Ogiek is one of the Last Hunter Gatherer community in East Africa. They face deforestation, land dispossession and marginalization. The Ogiek need Your Support to turn a traditional honey business into a Professional bee keeping value chain. This is possible by providing a bee keeping kit per family. They will also join Ogiek Savings and Credit Society. WHAT CAN 10 BEE HIVES (KIT) DO? Can yield honey valued at $1000. Enough for 1 year university studies or 2 Year secondary education.
Ogiek community faces serious challenges. Ogiek are the First Peoples of East Africa comparable to the Khoi and the San of Southern Africa. They were hunters and gatherers who prefered to live in the forests. Problems faced 1. Land dispossession on unprecedended scale. 2. Deforestation of Mau Forest. Their cultural mainstay. 3. Marginalization- being a minority group, they have no political mileage. 4. Poverty 5. Illiteracy 6. Assimilation and extinction.
Ogiek Project has 5 Honey Comb Pillars aimed at addressing the problem 1. Bee keeping 2. Honey Value Chain Mainstreaming 3. Establishment of Ogiek Reservation Area and Conservation 4. Establishment of Ogiek Cultural Centre 5. Sustainable Lifestyle - Education, Health, Green Revolution
This project forever change Ogiek's Fortune. We shall transform Ogiek from a poverty stricken people into one of Africa's richest Community that lives in harmony with nature. A case study to be emulated by others. Be part of this winning formula.
