Summer has arrived at the ranch even earlier than usual. Contrary to popular belief, it is not sunny year-round here, at least not in East County San Diego. But when summer comes, it makes itself known!
Our burros LOVE the summer time. When not sun bathing, they enjoy naping and hanging out in the shade.
The biggest challenge for our burros is the flies that come with the summer temperatures. The flies are hardest on our senior burros. We use socks protect their legs against flies and because they are so stylish!
First is Ellie may with bee socks and a bee fly mask. Ellie has a big personality and can certainly sting like a bee!
Then we have Felina, pretty in pink unicorn socks and cute flower fly mask. She is a magical burro.
Lastly is Claude in his seahorse fly mask and banana socks because why not?
In addition to leg protection and masks, we use topical fly deterrents on the burros as well as a feed-through supplement that defends them during fly season.
In spite of the challenges that the flies bring, our Burro Brigade are protected. And they look so cute! Thank you for supporting all that goes into providing the best possible care for our burros, regardless of the season.
