Challenge

Burros were first domesticated 5,000 years ago. Since then, these sensitive, intelligent animals have become a true "beast of burden." We are currently caring for thirteen burros. Most were rescued from neglect by animal services agencies. Others came to us when loving owners faced life changes that put the burros at risk. In addition to our "lucky thirteen" we also have one mini burro in our care, and two mini-mules (burro-pony crosses) and one honorary burro, a Belgian Draft horse, Sonny.

Solution

Burros are very social equines that form life-long bonds. Through your support and generosity, you enable us to maintain our burros within their social groups. Some of these hardy, long-eared members of the horse family have a reputation for being challenging to handle. Over the years of working with them we have developed training and management techniques that allow us to provide the best possible care for our Equus asinus.

Long-Term Impact

This project will provide ongoing care for our burros and allow us to help other at-risk burros that find themselves in need of a forever home.
