From Conservation to Opportunity

Safal Eye in the Wild- Frame Your Future Campaign

Your continued support is helping us reimagine how environmental conservation creates lasting opportunities for young people and communities. Across our programmes, we are demonstrating that protecting nature can also expand access to education, strengthen climate resilience, and inspire the next generation of environmental stewards.

One of the most exciting developments was the evolution of the Safal Eye in the Wild Photography Competition 2026, launched under the theme "Frame Your Future." Since 2017, the competition has celebrated Africa's rich natural heritage through photography. This year, it was reimagined around a new Conservation for Education model, where every photograph submitted helps create educational opportunities for future generations.

Through the initiative, proceeds from the photography auction will support the construction of classrooms, the stocking of school libraries, scholarships for deserving students, and vocational skills training. By connecting conservation with education, Safal Eye in the Wild is demonstrating that protecting our environment can also transform lives.

The competition culminated in an Awards and Recognition Gala, bringing together photographers, conservation champions, partners, and stakeholders to celebrate outstanding visual storytelling and reaffirm the shared responsibility of protecting our natural heritage while investing in education.

Our commitment to environmental education was further demonstrated during World Environment Day 2026, when Safal MRM Foundation, together with Mabati Rolling Mills, established the Safal Eye in the Wild Green Zone at Lenana School. More than 1,000 indigenous and fruit trees were planted to create a living classroom where students will continue learning about biodiversity, climate action, and environmental responsibility for years to come.

The Safal MRM Foundation also continued supporting community-led restoration efforts in Kilifi County. Employees from Mabati Rolling Mills Mariakani joined students and teachers at Migundini School to donate and plant 600 indigenous tree seedlings, strengthening local climate action while encouraging young people to become active custodians of their environment.

Environmental education remains at the heart of our work through Mabati Technical Training Institute. The Institute's tree nursery currently nurtures 3,000 seedlings, which will be distributed to schools and community greening initiatives. At the same time, the MTTI permaculture garden continues to provide practical training in climate-smart agriculture, with the successful harvest of the dragon fruit demonstration project showcasing innovative approaches to sustainable food production and resilient livelihoods.

Your generosity is helping us do far more than plant trees. Together, we are restoring ecosystems, creating greener learning environments, equipping young people with practical environmental skills, and proving that conservation can become a powerful pathway to education and opportunity.

Thank you for helping us frame greener, more resilient futures!
