Be Strong, Be Wise equips teens and young adults with tools to create and sustain healthy relationships free from sexual violence. We partner with schools to deliver a 5-part curriculum that is comprehensive and interactive, delivered by one of our 55 trained facilitators throughout Kwa-Zulu Natal and Pretoria. As one recent young learner said, "(BSBW) helped clear the fog in my mind, answered my deepest questions and taught me to distinguish right from wrong with clarity and compassion."
South Africa has the highest Gender-based violence rate in the world. So high, that a new word has been coined, "femicide," referring to the number of women killed each year. Given that young people (teens and young adults) are most at risk, our project aims at empowering youth through education, increasing confidence and awareness in each and every student, while decreasing the risk of sexual violence in whole communities.
The BSBW 5-step curriculum equips young learners with tools aimed at lowering risk, while building trust and connection in relationships. Learning how to communicate boundaries, respect others, listen to body cues and respond to toxic behaviors are all skills teens learn in our course. Implementing our course as part of Life Orientation or Health class has proven to lower sexual misconduct school-wide.
The project will educate hundreds of young people throughout Kwa-Zulu Natal and larger South Africa, equipping them with the skills needed to create and sustain healthy relationships, free from sexual violence.
