Basketball Scholarships

Tooro Basketball Academy (TBA), is proud to reflect on the continued growth of our programs and the expanding opportunities being created for young athletes across the region. Our mission remains clear: to use basketball as a pathway for education, personal development, and opportunity for young people—especially those from underserved communities.

Thanks to the continued support of our donors, partners, and community members, TBA is entering the year with renewed momentum and an exciting new initiative aimed at reaching even more young people at the grassroots level.

Expanding Access Through Community Basketball Hubs

In an important step toward widening access to the game, TBA has introduced Basketball Hubs in two rural communities in Fort Portal. These hubs are designed to bring structured basketball training and mentorship directly to young boys and girls who may not otherwise have access to organized sports programs.

For many children in rural communities, opportunities to participate in organized basketball are limited due to distance, lack of facilities, and financial barriers. The introduction of these hubs ensures that talented and passionate young athletes can now access coaching, training, and development opportunities within their own communities.

By establishing these grassroots centers, TBA is strengthening its commitment to inclusion—ensuring that the next generation of players is discovered, supported, and nurtured regardless of where they come from.

Looking Ahead

The introduction of rural basketball hubs marks an exciting new chapter for Tooro Basketball Academy. By bringing basketball directly into communities and providing access to structured training, TBA is helping unlock the potential of many young athletes who might otherwise go unnoticed.

As we move forward, our goal is to continue expanding opportunities, strengthening community partnerships, and nurturing the growing basketball talent across the region.

With the continued support of our donors, partners, and community members, TBA will keep working to ensure that every child with passion and potential has the chance to dream, develop, and succeed—both on the court and in the classroom.

On behalf of the Tooro Basketball Academy, I would like to extend our heartfelt thanks and appreciation to our donors, sponsors, and supporters. Your generosity has been the driving force behind the success of the Basketball and Talent Scholarship Program, opening doors of opportunity for underprivileged student-athletes to reach their full potential.

Your support has not only provided essential financial relief to families but has also given young athletes the confidence and motivation to pursue their academic and athletic goals with pride and determination. Because of your commitment, the program continues to grow, evolve, and make a meaningful impact in the lives of our students and the wider community.

Overview & Progress

The Basketball and Talent Scholarship Program was established to identify, support, and nurture students with exceptional athletic ability and academic promise—regardless of financial background. Its mission is to break down socioeconomic barriers, promote inclusion in sports, and create clear pathways for both academic success and athletic excellence from primary through high school.

Following the success of the second Tooro Kids Basketball League held in September 2025, the program expanded its reach to include primary school students who have been part of the academy’s basketball development program. This strategic addition ensures that promising young athletes receive support and mentorship early, laying the groundwork for long-term growth and opportunity.

As of October 2025, the Basketball and Talent Scholarship Program proudly supports 10 student-athletes across both primary and high school levels. This includes 6 high school students—four boys and two girls—and 4 primary school students in Year 6—two boys and two girls.

The inclusion of these younger scholars marks a major milestone in the program’s evolution, creating a clear development pipeline that nurtures talent from the grassroots level to advanced competitive play. Each scholarship provides financial relief, academic encouragement, and structured athletic development—ensuring every student can pursue both education and sport with dignity and confidence.

Positive Impact

The impact of the Basketball and Talent Scholarship Program continues to extend well beyond financial assistance. Families are experiencing relief from educational and athletic expenses, allowing them to focus on supporting their children’s development. Students are showing enhanced academic performance, with noticeable improvements in motivation, attendance, and achievement.

Through structured training, mentorship, and personal guidance, scholars are developing both their athletic skills and character. Additionally, by supporting Year 6 students, the program is nurturing talent from an early age—instilling discipline, teamwork, and goal setting that will benefit them throughout their educational and athletic journeys.

“Receiving this scholarship makes me feel that people believe in my dreams.”

The Basketball and Talent Scholarship Program demonstrates the remarkable impact that communities, schools, and donors can achieve when working together. With 10 students now benefiting—across both primary and high school levels—the program is fostering not only athletic skill, but resilience, character, and academic excellence.

Every scholarship awarded represents a story of hope, perseverance, and opportunity. Your continued support is vital to sustaining and expanding this program, enabling more young athletes to pursue their dreams—on the court, in the classroom, and beyond.
