Eleuthera Emergency Partners is a volunteer-run organisation that provides communities with fire and medical assistance. With no hospital and no government-run emergency programme, this network provides essential community services. With increased demand due to COVID-19, even more lives are saved by this vital link in medical evacuations. Donations help cover the costs of new vehicles, basic operating costs, token stipends for the cadre of dedicated volunteers, training and life-saving equipment
Eleuthera residents must leave the island during emergencies. While basic clinics are spread out over the 120-mile-long island, critical care must be provided by first responders. With no government emergency programme, the volunteers driving the fire trucks and ambulances are the first and sometimes last line of defence. As a volunteer organisation, all funds must be raised for this critical care. Without support from donors and the community, the island residents and visitors are vulnerable.
Eleuthera Emergency Partners protects life and property with dedicated volunteers who drive the ambulances and fire trucks. With increasing pressures from COVID-19, the organisation plans to expand to North Eleuthera. Capacity will be enhanced through additional volunteer recruitment, first responders and EMT training. Even more lives will be saved by adding another fire truck and ambulance to the network. Further, a disaster management plan will be created to respond to weather events.
By building capacity and providing support for operations and equipment, lives will be saved by local community members, improving the overall health and economic stability of the island.
