Report on Back to School Campaign

For many children in Ghana, starting school without basic learning materials creates anxiety, exclusion, and learning difficulties. Exercise books and stationery, items often taken for granted remain unaffordable for many families in deprived communities. In response, United Way Ghana’s Back to School Campaign was launched to ensure vulnerable children begin the school year prepared, confident, and able to participate fully in class.

Thousands of learners across the Greater Accra, Eastern, and Ashanti Regions start school without exercise books and stationery. Without these essentials, children struggle to take notes, complete assignments, and engage effectively in lessons, negatively affecting their confidence, attendance, and academic performance.

The campaign targets 1,000 learners, providing each child with:

  • 10 exercise books
  • Essential stationery

A contribution of USD 10 supports two children, easing financial pressure on families and promoting equal access to education.

To date, the campaign has recorded the following progress:

  • Funds received: USD 160.50
  • Children supported:32 learners
  • Each child received 10 exercise books and stationery

With this support, the beneficiary students were able to complete the academic term, actively participate in lessons, and carry out assignments without interruption. Even with limited funding, the campaign has delivered tangible impact and demonstrated effective and accountable use of resources. Upon resumption, United Way Ghana will engage the supported learners and schools to collect data on school readiness for the second academic term, helping to assess learning continuity and future needs.

Financial Summary

  • Total Project Goal: USD 5,000
  • Funds Raised: USD 160.50
  • Funding Gap: USD 4,840

Access to learning materials increases school attendance, improves academic performance, and motivates children to pursue higher education. Over time, this contributes to improved literacy, economic empowerment, and stronger, more resilient communities.

United Way Ghana invites donors and partners to help reach the remaining 968 learners. Your support ensures that no child is excluded from education due to lack of basic school supplies.

Together, we can give every child a confident start to the school year.
