There is an ever widening gap between demand and supply of organs in India. As a result precious lives are lost each day. One of the biggest impediments to organ donation is the lack of awareness and a positive outlook towards donation. Funds raised through this project will aim at creating awareness on organ donation especially amongst the youth through innovative ways to engage public interest, encourage family discussion, build positivity and motivate people to pledge for organ donation.
India has a dismal organ donation rate of 0.8 per million population, which means that not even one person in a million people goes on to donate his/her organs in our country. This is amongst the lowest rates in the world. A significant aspect that contributes to this low bleak rate is inadequate awareness among the public and the many myths and misconceptions that people harbor with regards to organ donation.
Designing & showcasing unique awareness initiatives & campaigns. Apart from regular awareness sessions, we are constantly striving to come up with unique ways to capture public attention. In the light of the ongoing pandemic, the Foundation has launched a unique online program for interested volunteers to become Organ Donation Ambassadors with the objective to enable them to become proficient enough to be able to undertake awareness initiatives on organ donation amongst different audiences.
Through these innovative and unique awareness initiatives, MOHAN Foundation hopes to change attitude and impact behaviour, so that many more people especially the young take the pledge for organ donation and encourage their family members, friends and colleagues.
