December 2017 AWARE Ambassador Report

By Scott Lange | Executive Director

We have three new or potentially new ambassador animals taking residence at AWARE! First, Crowbar the crow became an official AWARE Ambassador a few months ago. Crowbar has taken up residence with Velcrow, and the two of them are picking up human vocalizations like "hi" and "how are you doing" remarkably quickly.  Second, Jeffery the black rat snake is becoming an official Ambassador.  He actually went through our rehab program twice!  The first time he was brought in by a visitor to the nearby Arabia Mountain park. Once he recovered, we released him, but a few months later he was attacked by a dog and brought in again! When we recognized him, we were shocked! This time, he was designated non-releasable and placed into education with us.  And third, we have a non-releasable woodpecker that may become an ambassador as well.  We have built an enclosure for him lined with tree bark he can peck at.  If he takes to it well we may keep him permanently.

So thanks for your continued support in making it possible for us to care for our permanent educational residents!
