This project will launch a permanent medical center in Latacunga, Ecuador, providing year-round healthcare to low-income families while hosting international medical students for clinical rotations. We will provide 5,400 annual consultations in general medicine, pediatrics, and dentistry, bridging the gap between seasonal aid and sustainable, accessible health services for underserved rural and urban communities.
In Ecuador, low-income families face a broken healthcare system with long waitlists and severe supply shortages. Our partner communities rely on seasonal medical brigades that offer only temporary care, leaving chronic conditions untreated. Over 40% of the local population lives in poverty and cannot afford private clinics. Without year-round access to affordable medicine and diagnostics, preventable illnesses continue to disrupt lives and trap families in cycles of poverty.
We are opening a permanent Medical Center in Latacunga to provide year-round, high-quality care. We will offer free healthcare to our community partners and low-cost services to the surrounding populace. By establishing a clinical lab, dental unit, and specialized offices, we provide the continuity seasonal brigades cannot. Our Learning Exchange Program brings in international medical students to support our staff, creating a sustainable, high-standard hub for community-rooted healthcare.
The center will provide over 5,000 annual consultations, directly improving health and productivity for our community partners and beyond. By merging medical education with clinical service, we create a revenue model that reduces grant dependency. Long-term, the center will lower the regional incidence of chronic disease and serve as a permanent pillar of health infrastructure, empowering both the local community and the next generation of global health professionals.
