The Autism Awareness 5KM Run will build a therapy center for children living with autism and provide free occupational and speech therapy services to over 300 children from rural areas in Kenya. Your donation to this project ensures maximum autism awareness is created in Kenya's rural areas and access to crucial therapy and education services is guaranteed for free.
There are currently more than 1000 children with special needs that do not have access to therapy services due to the tough economic times, lack of awareness, and abject poverty in rural areas. This situation makes the rights of children with disabilities not guaranteed. Day in and day out parents lock them up in homes due to the stigma associated with having a child with disabilities and they are denied access to therapy services that could greatly improve their ability to live independently.
The Autism Awareness 5km run raises funds that go into buying therapy equipment for the therapy centers. The equipment goes a long way toward ensuring that children with disabilities get access to occupational, speech, and physical therapy services for free at least on a weekly basis. The run also creates massive awareness in the community and breaks the disability myths in rural areas, this allows the locals to accept the children and promote the availability of services that help more kids.
This project will help over 1000 children from rural areas to get access to occupational, speech, and physical therapy services. The services will turn them into young independent boys and girls who are able to rise above their conditions and pursue their dreams in life.
