This project will build 45 shelters, distribute essential household items and food to 315 of the most vulnerable people following the recurrent fires that have occurred in Bukavu, South Kivu Province in eastern DR Congo, represented in 45 households and help them. This will allow them to return to their plots, to be protected from the weather and to have the minimum for their survival because they have lost everything in the fires.
According to the evaluation report by OCHA with its partners, more than 4243 people are homeless as a result of the recurrent fires and are housed with host families and others in schools and churches. Although OCHA works with the provincial division of social affairs, they do not have assistance during this rainy period. Their humanitarian situation remains worrying. This project targets 315 more vulnerable people identified in the three municipalities of the city.
GRAD will build 45 shelters for 315 vulnerable people and distribute essential household items and food. 167 girls will receive hygiene kits. An awareness campaign will be organized for disaster risk reduction. The water will be treated to prevent the risk of disease. And at the end of the day, detraumatization sessions will be organized.
The project will provide the 315 most vulnerable people with safe shelter, essential household items and food that will facilitate their settlement in acceptable conditions. The 167 girls targeted will receive hygiene kits that will protect them against infectious diseases. GRAD will organize awareness sessions on fire prevention in their respective environments and trauma relief sessions for those affected for their resilience.
