Afghanistan faces a humanitarian crisis with up to 28.3 million people, or two-thirds of the population, in need of humanitarian assistance, and 20 million people face acute food insecurity. In response to this difficult situation, JEN will provide food assistance to sustain people's lives and livelihoods. JEN has been working in Afghanistan since 2001 and has a local office. We also have expertise in food distribution from many years of experience.
In Afghanistan, facing an unprecedented humanitarian crisis, as many as 20 million people face acute food insecurity, 6 million of whom are at 'humanitarian crisis level'. Many of the vulnerable population do not have enough knowledge of proper handwashing, which could further deteriorate their health condition. The project aims to alleviate the food crisis of the most vulnerable by improving the quantity and quality of the food they consume as well as promoting proper hand washing.
After a close examination of the needs of the target areas, we identify the most vulnerable households based on certain criteria. We distribute food packages to the identified target households, taking into account their needs and the local food culture. To encourage proper hygiene practices, we will also distribute soap, explaining its effect, importance and proper hand washing methods.
The project will improve the physical and mental health of people facing food insecurity and encourage them to live self-reliantly. Developing proper hygiene knowledge will help prevent illness by changing their daily routines. If they can regain their health and prevent illness, they can focus on their work and studies and take steps to rebuild their lives.
