This project aims to provide 190 stunted children with a balanced diet within six months and provide each households with 3 best egg-producing chickens and nutrition education. Stunting is caused by not eating enough or eating foods that lack growth-promoting nutrients, and persistent infections or chronic illnesses that lead to insufficient nutrient intake. The project will solve the problem of children suffering from malnutrition and stunting in the two sectors of eastern province/Rwanda.
Results of the Rwanda Demographic and Health Survey showed that 36% of children in rural areas were stunted, compared to 20% in urban areas. We also conducted a research to analyses the situation of stunting in our operating areas and found that 190 kids (Between 6 to 48 months) were stunted. These kids suffer from lack of social and cognitive development and limited mental capacity. The problems of stunting sometimes exceed the economic means of their families.
Fighting stunting among children requires everyone's efforts. Most households have the food but a poor mindset, and lack of skills to prepare a balanced diet in some cases. This project will use sensitization campaigns to teach households in our operating areas about ensuring a balanced diet using the available food in households. This will help also to release 190 children from stunting situation.
The interventions will minimize the impact of malnutrition to ensure that all children have equal opportunities to grow up well-nourished, so they may thrive and reach their full developmental potential. This will also supports positive behavior change and come up with activities including community growth monitoring and promotion sessions, nutritious food and cooking demonstrations, nutrition education, counselling on complementary feeding practices, and improving family and individual
