It's been 3 years since we erected our 1st plastic greenhouse and now because of degeneration of the plastic, we had to tear it down and reconstruct it with new bottles. Now if you want to know what we did with the old bottles, I'll tell you… we shredded them and will create ecobricks from the plastic remains. We wanted to ensure we had a solution of what to do with the old bottles so we don't create a larger problem. Many people have great ideas, but sometimes those ideas only last a short time and the long term effect isn't taken into account. Our ecobricks become a final resting place for our used plastics. It is not the absolute answer, but it does solve a bit of the problem. We strive to ensure all of our projects are self-sustainable and does not harm the community we are trying to help.
Our sponsored children came out to learn about conservation and how to create the new greenhouse projects. The children will be returning to school on Monday and were so eager to come to the guest house today to work on our greenhouse.
We got it built in one day because of all the hands we had working on it and the cleanup was a breeze! Our children have worked so hard this year learning about each project and how hard we work to help the community. Their interest is heightened every time they come to the house to work with us. We want them to learn how important it is to give back to the community and if we work together, we can get so much done successfully.
A couple of days later, the team learned how to germinate seeds for growning next season and also learned so much about composting, and using the food waste in the greenhouse crops. Already our tomatoes are starting to grow a bit bigger and faster!
We look forward to learning so much more about more healthy habits and projects to help feed our elderly and even having enough to sell at the local tourist lodges.
Stay tuned for more great projects!!
