A Lasting Impact

By Susan Oertle | Co-Founder

Through the efforts of The Angel Projects Uganda's staff and volunteers, the Rubuguri area of Uganda remains safe and healthy during the COVID-19 pandemic.  Our general manager and his team continue to install and maintain tippy-taps (handwashing stations) throughout the region as well as host educational events for the local community members to teach them good hygiene practices and nutrition information that's important for staying healthy.  The Angel Projects Uganda also continues to provide its feeding program to help families who have lost income due to the pandemic and the resulting quarantines/closures.  While The Angel Projects continues to take specific measures to combat the spread of COVID-19 in the areas surrounding Rubuguri, we also believe in the importance of taking steps to create a lasting impact on the health of the community.  To that end, we are currently sponsoring two students, Marie and Eva, as they begin careers in the healthcare field.

Marie is a young lady who has always been at the top of her class in school and was accepted to a regional referral hospital where students learn clinical/practical skills and are placed in rural health facilities or within the pharmaceutical industry.  She is excited to become a pharmacist in order to help her community and support her family, who is currently living in deep poverty.  We are so excited to partner with her as she starts this journey, and we are grateful to her for serving with our healthcare program, the Saving Grace Project, which she will continue to do during her school breaks as she returns to the village to work with our First-Aid students.

Eva is another important part of our Saving Grace Project, and she is currently attending nursing school.  Eva is also a talented student who is looking forward to being able to support her family and her community.  She previously attended one year of nursing school but had to drop out because she and her family were unable to continue to pay her tuition.  We are happy to partner with Eva, giving her a second chance to follow her dreams.

The Angel Projects believes that making an investment in future professional healthcare workers will not only ensure proper medical care for the community, but it will also help the families of Rubuguri rise out of poverty. For that reason, we also continue to assist with school fees at the lower levels, elementary through high school.  We believe that education is the way to a brighter future for the next generation of Ugandans.
