We are thrilled to report that the village of Rubuguri, Uganda, continues to remain COVID-free, and we are so pleased that we have been able to play a part in maintaining a healthy community. Since the beginning of the pandemic, our on-ground staff members of Angel Projects Uganda have been installing hundreds of tippy-taps, or handwashing stations, all around the local area. Not only do these staff members continue to install new tippy-taps farther and farther out from their immediate community, but they are dedicated to maintaining every tippy-tap they have already installed. A large part of the tippy-tap installation is education, so our staff members have been working hard to ensure everyone who receives a tippy-tap outside of their home or business is carefully trained in its use and importance. We truly believe that the installation of so many tippy-taps has led to better hygiene in this community, which in turn has led to better overall health.
Another part of The Angel Projects' fight against COVID has been our Greenhouse Project. While our American staff members and volunteers were in Ruguburi for the month of August, they constructed a greenhouse near our Angel Projects Uganda headquarters and planted a variety of vegetables and herbs, most of which are unable to be grown locally. Over the past several months, these plants have flourished and been harvested, and we're currently using them to supplement the diets of the older members of the community. We believe that providing nutritious meals to the elderly is vital for their health, especially in the midst of a pandemic. Our next goal with this project is to construct more greenhouses in various parts of the village and to educate locals in growing, cooking, and eating vitamin-rich vegetables and greens. Every project we undertake includes an element of education; we want the people we work with to understand the purpose and the value of our projects. They need to understand how our projects can improve their health specifically and their lives overall.
The final component of The Angel Projects' fight against COVID has been our Saving Grace Project. During the month of August, a volunteer RN from the States worked with our local Ugandan staff members to train a team of young women who are interested in the medical field how to do basic first-aid. Since then, these young ladies have been traveling throughout the local area to visit the elderly members of the community, ensuring that they are remaining healthy, especially during this difficult time. They have also been bringing these elderly people much needed supplies and nutritious food, and they have been teaching them about hygiene and how to maintain their health. It has been a pleasure to watch the relationships blossom between these young Saving Grace team members and the elderly people of the community.
The Angel Projects will continue to look for ways to fight against COVID and to keep Rubuguri safe and healthy during this pandemic.
