During November 2022 till March 2023, we continue extending our work by providing help for new identification documents, stipend emergency programs to help our clients for groceries, to pay utilities and help them with the rent, also, for some cases we provided temporary housing to transgender individuals who needed a place to stay.

The prevention and access to PrEP is part of ending the HIV epidemic. Arianna’s Center has done various workshops about prevention and has given information and access to PrEP.

That’s why our GlobalGiving community still has our backs by supporting our work in South Florida and we still extended our services and help to Puerto Rico.

Arianna’s Center is helping the Trans Latina community in Puerto Rico by supporting non-conventional ways to empower the community. In Puerto Rico, we participated in multiple activities and empowerment events.

While offering these services, for our new report, we will detail some activities done by Arianna’s Center on behalf of our communities during the current months.

Arianna’s Center is helping the Trans Latina community in Puerto Rico by supporting non conventional ways to empower the community. In Puerto Rico, we participated in the Trans Goofy Games, where all the LGBTQ community developed a sense of identity, access to new opportunities and engage with their community.

While offering these services, for our new report, we will present 2 main activities that have been executed accordingly to provide support to the communities, specially when Huricane Fiona landed and affected most of the Puerto Rican Island.

On September 25th, We mobilized our team to provide immediate help as first responsers to the affected communities, we had available Kits with basic needs and gift cards which were not distributed due to the lack of Internet and connectivity issues generated by the hurricane on September 21st, 2022, instead, we offered Economical help disatributed as following:

  • Population 50 years and over - We provided them 100 dollars in cash
  • Populations between 31 and 49 - we provided 60 dollars
  • Populations 30 years and younger - we provided 40 dollars.

Every individual recieved a kit was delivered to the atendees for this activity, due to the conflicts of mobilization, we had to travel to other communities and even divide our team to cover more territory.

On this day, we were setteled in the West zone of puerto rico (Mayaguez) in diferent areas.

Activity: October 22, 2022

We mobilized outr teams to the areas of San Juan and nearby communities to give away 250 Kits and educational presentations for PrEP and HIV testing.

These comunities were still struggeling with the effects of Hurricane Fiona so the kits were a great tool to provide somewhat first aid and basic needs to the assistants.

  • Lists provided in attachments in PDF
  • Attachments include dates of activities.

Overall, Hurricane Fiona created a dificult moment for the community but Arianna's Center was present as soon as the conditions were available to mobilize our teams to provide Basic needs and kits to the community in need.

We need our voices to be heard, Arianna’s Center has met with White House Representative Rachel Lavine who visited us in South Florida.
During this meeting we shared our developments within the Community but also the challenges for stigma, discrimination and anti LGBTQ legislation.
We talked about the importance of empowering our community and united more than ever.

The start of 2022 has proven to be challenging once again for many in the transgender and non-binary community. Here is Florida, we have see the lives of TGNC folks used to create fear, stigma and discrimination through anti-LGBTQ legislation.

Our GlobalGiving Community has continued to step up and provide generous support for our community through our emergency stipend program, assisting our clients with everything from money for groceries and transportation to help with thier utilities and rent. On the back of last year's Lil Nas X baby registry we're happy to report that awareness of not just our work but our community as a whole continues to grow. These emergency payments do everything from helping to ensure there is a meal on the table to making sure people have transportation to get to medical appointments and job interviews safely.

A new partnership with HRC has also enabled us to expand our ability to provide at home HIV test kits to our clients. It's just another way that we're using non traditional methods of outreach to ensure that rates of HIV tetsing rise amongst our community served. It's a way to remove some of the traditonal barriers that TGNC people face when accessing healthcare through traditional providers.

Most recently, funds raised were used to help pay for new identification documents for 4 transgender women of immigrant experience. In conjunction with the Consulate General of Mexico in Miami, these clients were given new birth certificates and passports that reflect their gender identity and chosen names. It was a truly memorable moment as these clients finally received gender affirming documentaion, and another step on teh road to being able to live their lives as their authentic selves.

Our work has continued to be recognized beyond South Florida and in December of 2021, our Founder and CEO was invited by the Biden administration to attend and represent the transgender community at the National HIV/AIDS Awareness Day observances at the White House in Washington D.C. Thanks to a special grant from Gilead Sciences, we will also be taking recipients of our emergency releif funding to Chicago this April to develop their advocacy and leadership skills at the Biomedical HIV Prevention Summit.

The last few months have been really exciting for Arianna's Center. We've seen such an increase in supoport for the transgender community which is really satisfying to see and crucial to the community we serve.

Our project to provide direct assistance for transgender individuals in South Florida was given a a huge boost recently when Arianna's Center was recognized by Li'l Nas X as one of the organizations he nominated as part of his 'baby registry' in conjunction with teh release of his latest album. Fans were directed to contribute to the Arianna's Center GlobalGiving project and we saw people from across the world learn about our work and contribute to our community.

During this time Arianna's Center was also one of sixteen national organization to be awarded funding from Gilead Sciences as part of their TRANSCEND initiative to continue our important work.

In the past 3 months we've seen an increase in clients who are currently navigating the immigration process. For example we recently received a call about a trans Latina being released from ICE detention in Texas. Arianna's Center was able to provide transportation for the individual to Florida along with 2 weeks emergency housing, HIV testing and linkage to medical care and linkage to immigration assistance. The client is now volunteering with Arianna's Center and establishing a life for themselves in South Florida.

We're continue to provide assistance for transgender women to pay bills, purchase groceries, access transportation and more. While the financial strain of the pandemic has eased for many people, the transgender community continues to face barriers and challenges at disproportinate levels. We still see between 25 and 30 requests for assistance each month in addition to the clients seeking HIV testing and linkage to care and prevention. We have also started a monthly movie and prevention night. Clients are invited to join us for a meal, a movie and education about HIV prevention.

Happily, the organization also celebrated our 6 year anniversary with an event in conjunction with Sunshine Cathedral and The Happening Out Network. This included a live streamed interview with community leaders and the trans community.

We're so incredibly grateful to each of you who made the choice to support our community this year. It's been so heartening to know that our community is cared for and valued. From all of us at Arianna's Center and our clients we thank you and wish you a very safe and happy holiday season.
