Learning and Growing Through Music

By Luciana Palacio | Project Leader

What happens when music enters the classroom as a new way of learning? For children at San Francisco School and Santa Lucía Kindergarten, it meant an opportunity to sing, play with sounds, discover another language, and, above all, learn together in a different way.

As part of the educational opportunities we promote, Sofía, a young Italian volunteer studying Art History and Classical Singing, led an introductory music and choir workshop with third-grade students and five-year-old children.

Through group singing, games, and sound exploration, the children were introduced to music in a playful and participatory way. During the sessions, they explored rhythms and sounds, learned simple songs in Spanish and Italian, and took part in group activities alongside their teachers.

The experience was about much more than learning songs. The workshop created a space to encourage creativity, self-expression, and shared learning. Meeting a volunteer from another country also gave the children an opportunity to discover a different culture and language through something tangible and accessible: music.

Experiences like this reflect an important part of our work. Improving access to education is not only about supporting children throughout their schooling; it is also about expanding the learning experiences available to them. Art, music, and cultural exchange can offer new ways for children to express themselves, participate, and discover their own abilities.

Our next challenge is to continue strengthening educational opportunities so that more children can access experiences that enrich their learning and development.

Thank you to everyone who supports this project through GlobalGiving. Your generosity helps us continue creating opportunities for children to learn, explore, and broaden their horizons.
