This project is dedicated to promoting gender equality through a community-based approach that aims to educate the community about gender rights. The project will educate 500 women and girls, as well as 150 LGBT individuals, on issues related to gender inequality in the Savanes, Kara, and Central regions of Togo, with the aim of breaking down social and cultural barriers related to gender and LGBT individuals. The project takes an integrated and transformative gender approach.
In Togo, the issue of gender equality remains a taboo within society; women and girls continue to be marginalized, and their rights are not respected. According to baseline data and UNDP reports, nearly one-third (32% to 43%) of women over the age of 15 in Togo have been victims of physical or sexual violence at least once in their lives. Articles 392 and 393 of the Togolese Penal Code criminalize homosexuality, and LGBT people are exposed to violence.
RESEAU CUPIDON will provide capacity-building for girls, women, and LGBT individuals in everyday life skills, with a particular focus on human rights. The project will support and mentor 100 women and girls, as well as 50 LGBT individuals, to empower them to overcome the challenges they face.
The project will provide 100 women and girls, as well as 50 LGBT individuals, with the necessary skills to strengthen their leadership abilities so that they can step up as leaders to defend their own rights and those of others.
