More than 2.3 million Argentines live in rural isolated communities that are impacted by an extreme climate, socio-economic vulnerability and lack of access to water and sanitation. The lack of data on these local populations is a limitation for designing public policies to address the issue of water access. This project aims to gather this key information and involves developing a mobile app to facilitate those tasks.
In order to design public policies that truly address the lack of water access in these local communities, up-to-date information about the current state-of-play is critical. This is a complicated process that is often required to be done manually due to a lack of connectivity. At present, there is no updated information about these communities' situation.
The project consists of generating data that visualizes the problem and facilitates constructive public policies aimed at addressing the issue. Developing the app will be of great support, as it will have offline functionality, including geolocation and image capturing, and will connect to a centralized data management system, allowing for real-time data monitoring and validation for the surveyed communities.
This project has the potential to obtain critical information on rural isolated Argentinean communities that have thus far been overlooked by other efforts such as the national census. Furthermore, the expectations are that the app will make it easier to obtain data from overlooked communities that are not reached by national censuses. This information will make it possible to analyze data in other areas and it can also be useful for the need to survey other issues/problems.
