Last month, SOUN Mao came to Sihanouk Hospital Center of HOPE with a very high-fever, severe headache, nausea and vomiting. He was suffering from severe symptoms of infective endocarditis-- a serious infection on the surface of the heart and valves-- along with other issues. Your donations made all the difference for him and his family.
Mao, 29, arrived with his wife Srey Peng from their rural village in southern Cambodia. Mao had been sick for many months and was unable to work. After a while, Srey Peng also lost her job at the garment factory because she was taking care of her husband. Thanks to the caring efforts of our medical team, Mao was able to undergo a variety of tests, including a CT scan provided by the nearby HOPE worldwide Medical Center and a highly effective antibiotic medication. Our laboratory was able to test Mao's blood to determine if any antibiotics would be resistant to his infection. Mao stayed at our hospital for 4 weeks, transforming from a young man struggling for his life to a smiling and grateful recovered patient who was very happy to be reunited with his daughter.
