How you saved Yeam Sey

By Ellen Maling | Director of Communications and Development

You helped to save Yeam Sey's life with your contribution to Sihanouk Hospital Center of HOPE's campaign.  With your support, we were able to sustain live-saving medication in concert with high-quality healthcare by trained Cambodian medical professionals.

One example of the incredible work of our clinical team is the diagnosis and treatment of Mrs. Yeam Sey.  Sey, 32, is from Kandal province and works in a garment factory making $128 per month. With her husband and her daughter, she rents a very small house in Phnom Penh.

Yeam Sey came to SHCH feeling horrible- with a high fever and stomach pains.  Previously, she had tried to access care through drug sellers at the market and already spent her precious funds at private clinics.  With a combination of laboratory tests and x-rays, our team uncovered that she had  TB peritonitis - a severe complication of tuberculosis when the infection travels from the lungs to the stomach.   With strong antibiotic medications and 3 weeks of hospitalization, Sey returned to health. She has a long path ahead to maintain her health. Without the effective interventions of SHCH, Sey would have certainly died.

“Without SHCH and generously donors, I would die because I would not have the money to cover my treatment. As a garment factory worker, I made a little salary so I cannot support to my health issue sometimes.  I thank you so much to SHCH’s staff who provide the compassion to the patients and they always make patients feel confident to regain health. ”. Said Sey.

Unfortunately, Sey's story is not uncommon here in Cambodia.  SIhanouk Hospital Center of HOPE exists to fill a critical need for both training Cambodian medical professionals and also providing free health care to the poor and vulnerable.  You can continue to support us in many ways- liking our facebook page, joining our email newsletter at www.sihosp.org or simply sharing our impact during the upcoming holiday season.

Thank you for your support of Sinanouk Hospital Center of HOPE.
