This project will establish an Animal Rescue & Rehabilitation Shelter in Busukuma Wakiso, Uganda, providing a safe space for injured, abandoned, and vulnerable animals to recover and receive care. Currently, many animals in the region suffer from neglect, disease, and inhumane treatment due to the lack of accessible shelter and veterinary support. The shelter will offer rescue, temporary housing, basic treatment, and rehoming services, while also promoting humane animal care practices.
Animals in Wakiso suffer from injury, neglect, and disease due to lack of accessible veterinary care and shelter. Many are abandoned or left untreated, while communities and city leadership often resort to inhumane methods like poisoning to control populations. Without a dedicated shelter, rescued animals have nowhere safe to recover, leading to continued suffering and preventable deaths, while also increasing public health risks such as rabies.
This project will establish a community-based animal shelter in Busukuma, Wakiso, where land is already secured, providing a safe space for rescued animals to receive care, treatment, and rehabilitation. With trained caretakers and veterinary support, the shelter will ensure consistent feeding and recovery. It will also promote adoption and community education, offering a humane alternative to poisoning and reducing animal suffering and public health risks.
This project will create long-term impact by establishing a sustainable shelter system that reduces animal suffering and promotes humane treatment of rescued animals. Through ongoing rescue, rehabilitation, and adoption, fewer animals will be left on the streets. Community education will shift attitudes toward responsible care, while partnerships with veterinary providers will improve access to services, contributing to better animal welfare and reduced public health risks over time.
