The Sichili Mission Hospital is the main referral hospital in the Mulobezi District and it has 0 ambulances. Patients that need to be referred to other hospitals have to go on their own, taking public transportation that can take up to 24 hours to get to the destination and costs a third of the monthly minimum wage. Most of them never get the treatment they need. With an ambulance, this would change. They need a Toyota Land Cruiser valued at $40.000, the mission already has $20.000.
The terrain and the scarcity of cars make it difficult to effectively transport patients to the hospital in Sichili. In emergency situations such as heart attack or life-threatening situations, an ambulance can make all the difference for this town.
An ambulance provides transportation to a hospital and allows emergency medical technicians (EMTs) to begin treatment upon arrival, extending help along the journey to the medical center. According to the American College of Emergency Physicians, "If you live in a remote area, it can probably take a rescue unit quite some time to arrive, and in some rural areas, response times can be significant," making a difference.
The project could make the difference between life and death for more than 10,000 people, enabling good care during a patient's transfer to the hospital.
