By Lauren Bryan | Region Associate Director, Online Marketing

OUR MISSION

To prevent and cure diabetes and to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes

In Oregon, Southwest Washington and Southern Idaho, the American Diabetes Association provides education, research and advocacy aimed at helping the people in our region living with diabetes and pre-diabetes while fighting to Stop Diabetes. Join the Stop Diabetes movement and help us end this disease for the more than 1,400,000 people affected and at risk in our community.

LOCAL PROGRAMS

Safe at School
Last year, we provided 545 diabetes trainings to school personnel throughout Oregon and SW Washington. These free Safe at School trainings ensure that children with diabetes remain safe while attending school.

Family Link
Family Link connects families who are learning to live with diabetes by providing newsletters, resources, training, parent mentors, and local social and educational events. The Jim Hansen, MD Memorial Symposium Series is held to educate and provide the latest information to parents and families of children with type 1 diabetes.

Annual Diabetes Practice Update (ADPU)
Conference held for medical professionals interested in the latest on diabetes care, research and education.

Living with Type 2 Diabetes

ADVOCACY
Advocacy plays an integral role in our mission. We fight for people with diabetes at the state and federal level and in our courts.  Diabetes advocates work to increase funding for diabetes research and programs; prevent diabetes; improve access to health care and eliminate discrimination against people with diabetes at school, work and elsewhere in their lives.  Become an advocate today by going to diabetes.org/advocate

RESEARCH
The Association supports type 1 and type 2 diabetes research projects that cover the spectrum from islet cell biology and transplantation techniques, to studies in education and behavioral issues. In 2013, the American Diabetes Association Research Foundation invested over $47 million in diabetes research.
