Kids practicing diligently!

By Brian Landever | Director

The students in the music program continue to practice their instruments.  They have made progress, and also aquired new donations of instruments to keep the program growing.  One trumpet, several clarinets, a sax, and many flutes are all part of the ensemble.  Most impressive has been the kids innate skill.  They learn quickly, have rhythm, and enjoy themselves.  Every week day after school the kids come to the library, the only library in the rural amazon, to practice music, as well as have art classes, reading sessions, computer sessions, and occassional movie days.  The music program at the library is an important piece of the culturally enriching after school opportunity.  The library has been open for many years and is open to all.  It is the only place for kids to go when they get out of school at 1 pm, and provides productive activities.  Volunteers regularly attend the library to provide 2 week workshops, and tourists from around the world stop in during their tours of the jungle to see the activities.  The conapac library was even in the national peruvian news 3 months ago, prompting new donors to support the program.  Please continue your support of the conapac library and help ensure these rural kids in the Amazon have proper exposure to a range of activities.
