The project addresses to a serious social problem, found both internationally and especially in Romania, namely, infant mortality and prematurity effects on the newborn and his family. In Romania, 1 in 10 children is born prematurely, so we could help 20.000 children and their families, yearly. We'll give professional advice, information and moral support to parents of premies via free phone line, within the project "Alo, prematuritate! / Hello, prematurity!" (Call Center).
Prematurity and its complications have been shown to be responsible for more than half of neonatale deaths. Many of them can be prevented by providing information and moral support for preemie parents. In Romania there is no Follow up Programme for premature children after therapy discharge, and no preventing Campaigns for the future parents. Premature infants is at risk of developing sever problems: deafness (3%), blindness (8%), cerebral palsy (8-12%), mental retardation (14%).
With the help of the free Call Center ("Alo, prematuritate! / Hello, prematurity!"), specialists in areas of neonatology, gynecology, legal, a psychologist and a parent who has experienced the prematurity of his child, will provide advice, information and moral support to parents or future parents with premature babies, 4h/day, 5 days/week. We compensate for the fact that, in Romania, there are still hospitals where the premies parents do not receive psychological advice and informations.
Operating costs of the project for the Call Center "Alo, prematuritate! / Hello, prematurity!" are 5000euro/month. Covering this, we will help more than 300 families each month. The Call Center helps to facilitating access to advice, information for parents, and thus aligning the service quality at international level in the field of prematurity, in order to positively influence the destiny of premature children in Romania.
