Hope in hopelessness
By Petrus Darlami - Leader of AIDSlink in Nepal
Namo Devi (Name Change), has been HIV positive since the last 10 years. Her finance condition was poor and helpless for a single woman. She has been working hard for their survival with her 3 children (2 sons and 1 daughter). After the dead of her husband, she becomes hopeless and helpless totally as her family condition became weaker and weaker day by day.
She suffers from many financial and health problems that she became hopeless thinking about the future of her children. She thought because she got HIV positive; she can't do anything anymore for her and her children. She was thinking she will die soon.
After all the thoughts she had, one day she met a person of AIDSLink Nepal staff. AIDSLink Nepal was supporting that area for education fees for other PLHA families. The AIDSLink Nepal staff member listened to her situation from there on they were able to support her daughter with education fees. Through the education support, her daughter is studying grade 8. She got a golden opportunity to get good education.
In the whole process Namo Devi also started taking ART which makes her become healthier again. Her health condition is developing very well and becomes better than each and every day. Now, she is living happily with her children, working hard to feed her children. She works in her own farm to run her family business, but still her economic condition is very low and her house is small and old. It is very difficult to live in such a house in the rainy season as her house becomes worst and breakdown. Still she is fighting and working hard for their survival. We hope that she will be able to get help and be able to get a new house for her and her children.
