Akello's story

By Samuel Odongo | Administrative Associate- Lira Office

“I am 13 years old, in primary six at Lira Model Primary School.

I would like to thank PLA so much for supporting me in my education.

I also want to thank PLA so much for making me reach Apac District and Soroti through games and sports, I was the best athlete in the district and in the whole of Uganda I was number two in 5000 metres race. Without PLA, I was not going to show all this talent. And I want to be the best in foot ball this term since last competition, against King James, I scored 4 goals alone and I was given a free ball after the game, at this time though Platform for Labour Action is not paying Boarding fees, I am sleeping in boarding school section on a bursary because of being a very good sports girl, I want you to know that Platform for Labour Action will not Pay my fees when I reach secondary school level of my studies because I will study for free. King James S.S, Saviors S.S want to take me to study in their school for free after primary  seven and Saviors’ has already written letter to school already to allow me start doing sports training with their students in both Athletes and football. I was given a new mattress by the Director of Savior S.S. Please thank the donors very much and Platform for Labour Action (PLA) because without you people, I was not going to get a place to show my talents. Mostly, I want to thank PLA staff so much for the encouraging words they have been giving me. I want Just to encourage my friends to also strive to work hard at school and Identify what they are good at”.
