Kitchen Garden and Irrigation Demonstration

By Mtokani Saleh Hamisi | Project Contributor

In May 2026, AgriHope Initiative for Resilience established a kitchen garden and irrigation demonstration at our community hub center in Kakuma Refugee Camp, engaging youth beneficiaries in practical agricultural activities.  The project included the procurement and use of essential farming tools and inputs such as a 20-liter knapsack sprayer, a variety of vegetable seeds (including tomato, eggplant, cabbage, watermelon, and indigenous vegetables), and soil improvement materials. The kitchen garden was designed to promote small-scale food production and efficient water use through simple irrigation techniques.

The activity was implemented at the community demonstration site with active participation from youth groups, supported by community facilitators. Despite challenges such as limited water access and high temperatures, the team successfully established the garden and initiated crop production. The impact is already visible, as participants are gaining hands-on skills in sustainable agriculture, improving access to fresh vegetables, and strengthening household food security and nutrition.

AgriHope Initiative for Resilience extends its sincere appreciation to all partners and donors whose support made this important step toward self-reliance and resilience possible.
