April 5, 2017 is the Global Day of the Engineer and we want to take this opportunity to talk about what YOU have done to support the next generation of engineers. With your support, programs like Engineering Fellows have been delivering engineering education to 5th grade students across the state of Washington.
Watch this “Engineering Fellows Program: Design, Implement, Refine” video for a snapshot of what teachers, professional engineers, and engineering college students have been able to accomplish with your support. Angie Steiner, a 5th grade teacher in Selah, WA, had this to say about the program:
“It's just opened my mind to a whole new world. It's an ongoing conversation, and for me to be a part of that is such an opportunity in my career. It has kind of revitalized me, like, yes, I love this. I love talking to other professionals and hearing their experiences and learning from them. It's been incredible.”
As we gear up for year two of the Engineering Fellows program, your support means more than ever in delivering high quality engineering education to students in Washington.
Engineering is essential to our region and our economy here in Washington state. From Bertha, the tunneling machine digging a historic tunnel under downtown Seattle, to finding ways to bring power to data farms in Eastern Washington, our state needs engineers. Through programs like Engineering Fellows, Washington STEM is working hard to bring engineering education to every student.
Wednesday, April 5, 2017 marks the second annual Global Day of the Engineer, presented by DiscoverE. This one-day event unites individuals, engineering employers, educational institutions, governmental agencies, and engineering associations to celebrate engineers and engineering.
