Leveraging STEM for Social Change

This year marks our five-year anniversary. We’ve accomplished so much with your commitment and support!

Here are just a few things that you’ve made possible over the past twelve months:

• Three new STEM Networks across the state, bringing the Washington STEM Network to a total of ten regions and almost half of Washington’s students. We took a Learning Tour through our Networks to highlight the great work happening in STEM across our state (see photo).
• Key STEM legislation: this year, your support paved the way for a new definition of professional learning for teachers. We're proud that the Governor proclaimed March 31, 2016 (our fifth anniversary) Washington STEM Education Day! (See attachment.)
• A 375+ person STEM Summit that raised awareness, got media attention, and created a clear path forward for STEM activities across Washington.
• A new commitment to five critical areas of STEM education for the students that need it most, including computer science (see photos from our STEM Network coding events).
• A huge ripple effect: for every dollar that you gave, the Washington STEM Network attracted two and half more to support STEM education activities – from regional fairs to mentorship programs and more.

A high-quality STEM education creates “future ready” community members: individuals with the technical and creative skills needed to thrive in today’s jobs and in the unknown jobs of tomorrow.
