Project Report | Feb 28, 2019
You made the difference in 2018, thank you!

By Caroline King | CEO

I’m writing on behalf of Washington STEM to wish you a happy 2019 and to thank you for your support and partnership in 2018. With your help, we advanced equitable student opportunity through STEM education with a special focus on early STEM and career connected learning.

In 2018, we accomplished so much together to open the doors for success in postsecondary education, career, and life for students across Washington state - particularly students of color, girls and young women, students from rural communities, and students from low-income communities.

Here are just a few highlights:

-We launched STEM by the Numbers, a report series that offers a region-by-region look at the need for STEM talent and opportunities for student success through STEM.

-We worked alongside business, education, and community leaders like you to successfully advocate to the Legislature to expand access to the Washington State Opportunity Scholarship to students attending community and technical colleges, authorize $12.5 million to modernize STEM classrooms across the state, and save funding for First Nations MESA, a program serving Native American students in STEM.

-Three hundred regional leaders, including Governor Jay Inslee and the Reverend Jesse Jackson, Sr., attended our 2018 Washington STEM Summit to explore how to support Washington students through early STEM and career connected learning.

-Alongside our regional STEM Networks, we are key partners to Career Connect Washington, which to date has connected 1,362 youth with internships in high-demand careers and 97 youth and young adults with apprenticeships in marine manufacturing, healthcare, construction trades, and other industries.

-We forged deep partnerships with organizations promoting equity in early STEM and supported the over 500,000 children in Washington ages 0-8 through our work with the Washington Early Math Coalition.

Your investment of time, talent, and treasure has allowed us to make big strides forward to ensure Washington’s students are on the pathway to opportunity. Thank you again and we look forward to partnering with you in 2019!

Sincerely,

Caroline King
