A couple of months ago our dear meerkat Karools experienced a big loss, his best friend Gaspar passed away because of old age. Due to this Karools was very sad and all the staff and volunteers at DAKTARI went together to keep Karools company so he would never feel alone. By constantly cuddling with him, we wanted to ease the pain of losing his best friend.
Fast forward a couple of weeks, we had the pleasure to welcome four new orphaned meerkats. Their names are Tinkerbell, Pinocchio, Peter Pan and of course - Timon!
Even though meerkats normally live in big groups, we must carefully and slowly introduce Karools to the new arrivals. As of now, we have started with putting Tinkerbell and Karools together a couple of minutes per day - just so they can start to get used to each other. Our goal is to keep all five of them together, so they can enjoy their days together as a big cozy group.
