It has been an year since the launch of the 'ADOPT A FAMILY' intitative and many people have benefited from the same. Each week sees a rise in the number of people coming to us in need of assistance hence increasing the need for funding.

Our local economy is currently struggling due to the pandemic and as such many people in slums can hardly find a source of income to sustain them. There has been even higher cases of abandoned families/ children as well as sick persons and the elderly. Many children are finding it hard to resume school even with them being re opned due to their economic status, or just the basic lack of food at home.

To mark Easter celebrations this year, we organized a charity hike to fundraise towards our cause. We were joined by many well wishers and some members of Internations for a successful event, whose impact was feedind several families for a couple of weeks.

This coming weekend, we will be hosting a Food Bank Drive with a twist. This will be a 'Zumba Boot Camp' whose necessated entrace requirment will be dry food donations of any kind.

We are highly grateful and wish blessings upon the many well wishers who have been touched by our work and have been supporting many struggling families through us by food and in cash donations. They and you our supporters here at GlobalGiving are the reason many struggling families in our local slums have a reason to wake up and look forward to a brighter tomorrow. After all, a weak body can hardly accomplish anything.

THE COVID - 19 CHALLENGE.

With the onset of the pandemic last year, many people lost their jobs and sole means of livelihood. Many slum dwellers are dependent on casual jobs that pay on a daily basis. Owing to their congested and mostly un hygienic living spaces, many employers shied away from employing them due to fear of infection, even as the cases begun to level out. This led to many slum/ low income families losing hope. The sick and elderly were abandoned while teen pregnancies escalated, as many young girls traded sex for basic needs. As a firm believer of helping all those in need, we decided to step up to the challenge at hand.

We launched our ‘Adopt a Family’ initiative, in a bid to feed this families who had lost all hope. Initially, we solely depended on friends and a few well wishers to donate food items that we would then distribute to the local slums. With time, our noble work was noticed and we had the honor of partnering with the Communications Authority of Kenya, with whom we successfully launched the initiative. We are grateful to have received a kick start donation for them that was enough to feed 200 families of about 5-8 persons for the period of a month. We are also grateful to all our supporters and well-wishers.

We distribute any donations received on a fortnight basis. We have social workers in the community who take tallies of the families in need, while keeping a database of those who received donations last and who is due to next. We take special concern to the sick, elderly and orphaned children. Some of the donations also goes to feeding the over 30 women(victims of gender based violence) and their families that are being sheltered in our safe house.Every food pack donated also contains re-usable masks and sanitizers to ensure they keep safe from Covid-19.

Besides offering these distributions, we strive to mentor them on ways they can also make money in this tough times. We have trained some women on how to make affordable masks and bags, among other things.

Our work can never be finished and we strive to reach more lives. We appeal to you to join us in touching and impacting more lifes today..
