PBSP together with our partners on the ground (since our last update) have already planted 100,000 propagules in ten (10 hectares) in 3 barangays in the municipality of Daanbantayan in the province of Cebu last March 3, 2015 for this project. We also had a meeting with the local office of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) for the preparation of the planting for the remaining 15 hectares (150,000 propagules) in four (4) different barangays in Daanbantayan this coming March 17, 2015 to complete the target.
During the visit from Global Giving representatives last October 2014, we were also able to plant 10 hectares in Barangay Kaongkod and Malbago in the municipality of Madridejos in the province of Cebu.
This project engaged various stakeholders and aims to formulate future environmental management policies for the protection and preservation of the island’s ecosystem, achieve improved protection against natural disasters, ensure greater food security, and increased household incomes for local communities. It is expected to impact 2,600 households locally.
