One million internally displaced people living in Shire, Tigray, Ethiopia. Among them are separated and unaccompanied children. The children have been traumatized by the effects of the war and sometimes they have been abused. The children live without adult caregiver thus exposing them to more risks. Abraham's Oasis provides temporary shelter for these children till a permanent solution within their family can be found. The children receive holistic services during their stay.
On 4th November, 2020 conflict between local and federal governments led to chaos that has caused fear and panic among the rural communities and most have fled to towns where they felt safer, but some families became separated and others were killed in the process. Currently one million people are different centers in Shire town in North-western Zone of Tigray Region in Northern Ethiopia. We provide this service for the children who don't have a care arrangement.
We have the physical structure to house these children and experienced psychologists are present to help these children. A day program consisting of educational, recreational and creative activities will benefit the children to regain a sense of normalcy while waiting to hear from their family. Intensive tracing activities will take place and children are re-united with their families as soon as it is safe and feasible. Family support is available and follow-up activities for one year.
The 50 children will be reunited with their family, thus keeping children in families and we will enable the families to look after their children by providing economic empowerment where needed and intense follow-up and counselling services for one year after the reunification takes place.
