Receiving the Awards

Caring for those who have already cared for us is one of life's greatest honours

With great satisfaction we would like to tell you about an important award we received from the Navarro Viola Foundation.

The Obra Padre Mario Pantaleo is one of the two winning institutions of the XXII Biennial Prize Special Edition 50 years of the Navarro Viola Foundation in the subject of Older People with the project "Great Connections. The app".

"Great Connections. The app" is an initiative that seeks to improve the lives of older people through a mobile application that provides them with relevant information and facilitates social connection, thus addressing one of the challenges of ageing.

This project integrates them into the digital world and allows them to strengthen their functional capacities:

1. learn, grow, and make decisions to strengthen autonomy, dignity, integrity, personal freedom and independence.

2. to be mobile to complete daily tasks and to participate in activities

3. to build and maintain relationships with family, neighbours, others

4. to contribute to society (helping friends, mentoring young people)

The experience we have gained along these more than 20 years, allows us to formulate projects in which the elderly are the agents in the search for more and better options for social integration and community life. We believe that a service that helps them to improve their quality of life must necessarily involve the protagonism of those involved. Experience shows that they are eager to remain active and not lose their social and family status. With a life expectancy of almost 77 years for men and up to 80 years for women.

Thanks to this award, the Obra del Padre Mario Pantaleo will develop this application, whose main functionalities will be to centralize community services and activities, reduce the digital divide through training and promote participation in virtual workshops and local activities, for the well-being of older people and their sense of belonging to their community.

We thank the Navarro Viola Foundation and the jury, for this important recognition.

All this was possible with the support and commitment of our professional teams and all the community whose unwavering support has been a constant presence on all the paths we have taken, demonstrating their spirit of solidarity.

Follow Up Report | Elderly digital integration

12 years in the Padrinazgo Programme

In this report, we would like to present you five resilience stories of children that we have accompanied for more than 10 years with the support of the programme Padrinazgo UnoxUno.

The digitalization of 100 Argentine seniors programme is going a bit slower than expected. Because of that, we want to tell you our best story of these last four months.

The kids have been participating in La Huella Educational Centre since 2011. There, they grew, learned, played, strengthened their hopes, received support and affection. Thanks to their sponsors, they participated in various educational, sports and recreational activities. They found their great passion in table tennis. They reached the podium countless times, in national and international tournaments.

Thanks to the programme:

- Solange made her dream come true: to become a high-performance athlete and to be today the one who transmits the passion for ping pong (table tennis) to the little ones who dream like her.

- Candela is one of the coaches at La Huella and is also studying to become a Physical Education teacher.

- For Katherine, Ping Pong has meant more than just a sport, because it has opened doors for her to enter numerous competitions in the Work and in other institutions. She participated in several inter-school tournaments

- Francisco has stood on the podium on numerous occasions and strengthened his confidence to believe that he can project and achieve new goals with practice, discipline and teamwork.

- When Tiziano finished his journey at La Huella, he started his journey at Pre Plaza to learn how to cook. In the summer and winter camps, he was one of those in charge of preparing meals together with other classmates, with the guidance of teachers.

They have grown up and take with them values, experiences and opportunities. As Father Mario said: "And these children will be tomorrow those who will carry within themselves what they live today in this place. That will never be erased, it will never be erased. It is an imprint that remains in the soul of each one of us".

With 8 euros a month (100 euros a year) you can accompany a child to walk a similar path, with a better present that encourages them to dream of a better future.

We are pleased to tell you how that the first figures of this project are still very positive. To continue, we have the will, the physical space, the older people and the teachers. We need to finance the supplies: the tablets, pen drives, chargers, notebooks, adapted PCs, snacks, screen protectors, speakers.

The specific proposal for older people that we launch for the summer in Argentina, surely help them in their daily activities.

With the passage of time, the loss of memory in everyday events occurs repeatedly. We don't remember where we left our keys or we don't remember the name of a person or an item we are looking for. It happens to us at all ages, but as we enter our 60s and beyond, it happens more frequently.

It is important that we strengthen our thinking through the exercise of the mental functions involved when we talk, think, imagine or interact with our environment and our loved ones.

The proposal that we bring is about daily workshops, of one hour, in which short and long term memory, attention, perception, reasoning and logical processes are exercised. From anywhere, virtually and together

In this first report of 2023 we want to thank everyone; the children who come seeking joy in education and food because they inspire us through their innocence; the sick who, seeking relief and reconsideration of their ills, show us the way to our own reconciliation; our elders who evoke in us the basis and summit of life as a whole; the workers who daily put their aptitude and energy to unite us in goodness and responsibility; the families who feel protected by us because they themselves are the shelter of a greater mandate: union and loyalty in the development of the human family; and even to the most fleeting servants, to the most anonymous benefactors who do not know the impediment of giving without being recognized. May all this be a living and transparent reality; may our bond be strengthened, may it be projected to the world as an offering and may it FRUCTIFY.
