Chlidren, young people, teachers, carers and older people themselves are all loving the Active Across Ages project which tackles loneliness and promotes physical activity.
Before delivering physical activity sessions in settings for older people, children and young people are trained to become Activity Buddies. Their response to the training has been extremely positive:
‘One thing I learnt today was how to adapt and be more considerate of working sports around older people’ (Activity Buddy, Year 13)
‘This is just an amazing project and I’m so pleased we’ve been given this opportunity to be a part of it.’ This was the feedback from one of the ten schools taking part in the project.
Moreover, carers at one of the residential homes involved have noticed a marked change in one of their residents who is generally withdrawn and noon-communicative.
‘He keeps himself to himself and rarely comes out of his room. Yet he has attended every session so far and he is a different person on the day of the session and for a period of time afterwards.’
The next phase of delivery will take place from September to December. Huge thanks for all donations received.
