STEM Self Learning Books for Children of Agastya

By Sameena Shaikh | Executive - Donor Relations

Agastya International Foundation has developed ActiLearn 1.0, which provides children with an opportunity to learn joyously and actively, anywhere, anytime, with or without technology. The book is designed in accordance with the NCERT curriculum on the experiential and joyful learning principles enunciated by NEP 2020, and is available in both an interactive physical and digital form, in several vernacular languages. It provides 20+ hours of hands-on learning Activities, with clearly stated learning objectives, range from simple to the more challenging, and over 94% activities can be repeated by fellow children/siblings. The educational crisis wrought by Covid-19 has focused global attention on the stupendous inequalities in access to learning.

ActiLearn 1.0 is a book designed to provide opportunities for self-learning, engagement, and self-discovery in the pandemic. It includes 45+ activities for an engagement period of 50+ hours, designed in accordance with the NCERT curriculum. It includes interactive formats, learner-friendly templates, and shifts in attitude to help students gain confidence in their skills.

Implementation:

ActiLearn 1.0 workbooks were distributed in Mumbai, New Mumbai and Shahapur to students of Classes 6 to 9 from Marathi medium schools. An orientation was given to teachers and children on the correct usage and benefits. After 2-3 months, a quiz and science fairs will be held.

Here are the schools where the ActiLearn books have been distributed.

  • Nutan Vidyalaya Mankhurd - 54 books
  • N. R Bhagat High School - 25 books
  • BMC Colaba Marathi - 360 books
  • L. B. S High School Digha - 180 books

Feedback from a Teacher:

I thank team Agastya for providing these books which are simple, easy to understand and developing making skills among students. Our is a slum school deprived of facilities and ActiLearn 1.O books will really help us in developing interest for science among students. - Mrs. Mhatre, Head Mistress, L.B.S School, Digha
