Last week, Palestinian journalist Shireen Abu-Akleh was burtally murdered by Israeli snipers. The violence on the ground continues, sprawling in relentless direction.
In Jerusalem, Achvat Amim's continues our education and solidarity work.
Our current participants are in the midst of investigating the ethical and strategic merits and drawbacks of violent and non-violent resistance. Achvat Amim met with Great March of the Return activist, Khalil, from Gaza.
To quote current Acvhat participant, Talya:
"Khalil’s words encapsulated the core concept of sumud (steadfastness). Khalil, who is actively engaged in resistance in Gaza, made a compelling argument for non-violent resistance. "What hurts you also hurts us," he said.
With the framing of non-violent resistance as a tool for regime change, Achvat Amim also headed to Shams Al-Aseel to talk with local activist, Antwan Saca. These heart-felt discussions of solidarity strategies and how to heal a nation in apartheid are crucial to changing the reality on the ground."
We know that these discussions are not just happening here in Israel Palestine, but that they are happening everywhere. To this end, Achvat Amim is committed to bridging the movement for justice and liberation in Israel/Palestine with the movement for justice and liberation in the diaspora.
Achat Amim wants to equip Jewish activists in finding right-sized political action.
Your support directly contributes to our ability to provide scholarships for applicants, making our education and solidarity work possible for Jews of all backgrounds. We're grateful for your support!!
Thanks for the work you're doing to transform the world. We know that this movment takes all of us.
In love, emet
Dear Achvat Amim Community,
Hi all!
We are in the final two weeks of our cohort with seven unbelievable, resilient, and creative Achvaters. Last week, they met the new cohort of Midreshset Dror, our Israeli sister program modeled after Achvat. This encounter quickly become one of my favorite Achvat moments— the cross-pollination really solidified for the Achvaters that they are part of a larger movement.
In regards to our alumni sustainer's fund, created and run by a group of our alumni, we've had four new monthly donors (yay!). Every single donation means that we can keep doing what we do, building the movement of self-determination for all peoples.
We love you, we need you. Thanks for having our back.
XoXo Alumni Sustainers
Hi all,
I am so excited to report that the spring cohort of Achvat Amim has started! After a two-month delay, we have 7 rockstar participants on the ground and ready to get to work! We are in the midst of the opening seminar and orientation week where the new Achvaters are getting to know each other, learning Hebrew and Arabic, and meeting with Achvat’s partners. Soon, we’ll have the opportunity to introduce them to their new city and movement peers. I look forward to keeping you updated once the group gets its footing!
In other news, we just received the wonderful news that every monthly donation made through the Achvat Amim Sustainers Fund will now be matched by one of our supporters. This means a monthly contribution to Achvat Amim will now be DOUBLED!
This fund has become such an invaluable and critical contribution to Achvat Amim's general sustainability and wellness as a solidarity and civil resistance body, and we are so grateful for our alumni who have built and are sustaining this fund! If you would like to become a sustainer, you can learn more here.
Thanks again for having our back.
With so much love and appreciation,
Dana
Dear friends and partners,
These last few months at Achvat Amim have been full of new and inspiring projects! As you know, we decided to restructure Achvat Amim for this period and design new models that can contribute to the work of all our partners on the ground and to the always ongoing work of bringing the Jewish diaspora into the movement for peace and justice. We are about half-way through the program now, and are really impressed and inspired by the brilliant and visionary cohort that's come together to invest in justice work during this time.
Another exciting development coming out of this moment is from a group of our alumni who have just launched the Achvat Amim Sustainers Fund. In their words, Achvat grounded them in their values and demonstrated that grassroots movement-building is possible, relational, and joyful. To that end, they are working together to grow Achvat Amim as a movement platform, and make it as sustainable and accessible as possible through monthly donations from Achvat Amim alum. It is extremely inspiring and humbling to know that our alum are with us, even when the program ends.
We know you know how important this framework is for the people who take part in it, and for the Israeli and Palestinian communities on the ground that Achvaters are working with. We also know how significant Achvat is for building connections between activists in different struggles and on different continents.
As a partner who is deeply invested in the Jewish community building and peace work that Achvat facilitates, and as a supporter in our end of year campaign last year, I am hoping that you might also consider joining us as a monthly sustainer or support our long-term growth through an end-of-year donation. As always, thank you for your ongoing partnership. The support, warmth, and generosity of our partners is so appreciated.
With love and solidarity,
Dana
