Bring healthcare to 1,000+ Awake Uganda villagers

The founder and leader of Achon Uganda Children's Fund, Julius Achon, is coming to the US on October. His goal is to raise awareness of the need for improved in Northern Uganda. He'll also work on raising critcal funds needed to continue AUCF and Kristina Health Clinic's mission of providing excellent healthcare to the people who need it most.

Julius grew up in a small village, Awake, 40 miles northeast of Lira in northern Uganda. At age 12, he was kidnapped by the Lord’s Resistance Army, a militant coalition that rebelled against the Uganda government, and was forced to become a child soldier. He escaped by running away. And he kept on running. Julius went on to compete for Uganda in the 1996 and 2000 Olympic Games, both times serving as captain of the Ugandan Olympic team. While training near his village in 2003, he encountered a group of orphans and couldn’t help but take them into his home. That was the beginning of the Achon Uganda Children’s Fund.

Julius and the AUCF team is focused on raising funds to support our current focus: improved maternity services. We have already added three midwives, and new birthing center and several new services. Our goal is to become the first clinic in the region to offer ultrasound services. But this requires not only the proper equipment but reliable electricity. This is a big but worthwhile investment.

The AUCF Team

Since we expanded our maternity services last year, we've delivered hundreds of healthy babies. At the same time, our total patient count is up over 40%. The staff at Kristina Health Clinic were right: offering maternity services in the Otuke Region--where the average family has 8-9 children--increases demand for all of our services. 

Today our ultrasound capabilities are very limited. Some patients need to travel to the hospital in Lira, 40 km away, for enhanced ultrasound services. That's why we're raising money to invest both in the equipment and the reliable supply of electricity.
