Human trafficking, domestic violence, and child abuse and exploitation have created an ongoing, modern-day slavery crisis in Southeast Asia. Despite the efforts in Cambodia, the number of cases continue to rise, while, at the same time, civic space is being restricted. The Alliance works with its founding member, Amrin Law and Consultants Group in Cambodia to provide legal support to the local community and civil society actors and to increase access to justice for survivors.
Too often, survivors lack resources or knowledge to access justice. Civil society actors have a role to play but few are providing legal services to survivors or work on these cases. Training is needed on best techniques for interviews, investigations, and trials for grassroots organizations and young lawyers. We have established partnerships with local organizations, but support is needed to amplify our efforts so more survivors can obtain justice and compensation for the harm suffered.
This continuation of our work will increase the number of partners trained and survivors helped. We will share our expertise through training and mentoring grassroot organizations and young lawyers on specific skills to work with child survivors or other survivors of sexual abuse. With legal support and adequate training, the number of actors able to defend survivors will increase, legal support will be strengthened, and more justice will be achieved for survivors.
By pursuing our efforts together, we can continue to provide legal aid to survivors of human trafficking, domestic violence, and child abuse and exploitation. We will be able to recruit young lawyers, specifically trained and dedicated to those cases, to effectively increase the number of cases where survivors obtain justice. Through collaboration, we will increase access to legal support and redress for survivors while building a stronger community of partners seeking justice.
