Often youth with facial disfigurements limit their futures by not pursuing post-secondary education. They dont believe in themselves and allow their facial difference to limit their aspirations. AboutFace created the Scholarship Program to inspire and recognize the personal and academic achievements of youth with facial differences who have dreams of becoming more. By providing financial support, we inspire youth with facial disfigurements to fulfill their dreams for a brighter future.
Looking different in a society that idolizes beauty can present insurmountable challenges and often leads to low self-esteem, social rejection and isolation. Living with facial disfigurement is a social disability that affects over 1.5 million Canadians. AboutFace supports this diverse and unique constituency and empowers them to have courage and confidence to participate fully in society. Our scholarship program was created to encourage youth with facial differences to continue their education.
Our scholarship program was created to recognize the personal and academic achievements of AboutFace members embarking on post-secondary education. This award celebrates the accomplishments of youth with facial differences and the significant contribution they are making to our organization and their communities and by assisting financially with post-secondary education costs ensuring integration into society and empowers them to have courage and confidence to participate fully in society.
Families impacted by a facial difference have a lot of additional medical expenses. Additional funding may be a deciding factor in whether or not a young adult can continue their education beyond high school. By providing this scholarship applicants are able to confidently pursue their dreams and participate fully as a successfully educated part of their society. This scholarship program distributes $2,000.00 to 2 deserving youth annually that are attending post-secondary education.
