As we embark on a new year, CIFD is hard at work to improve educational opportunities in the Ouarzazate region.

In conjunction to raising funds for our school bus pilot project via GlobalGiving, we have reached co-financing agreement with the local PTA. This incredibly dedicated group of individuals has pledged to contribute 30,000 MAD (roughly $3,200) for the Yellow School Bus Project. We are energized by this newest initiative on behalf of the students’ parents, guardians, and educators – who have been active in the planning process since the very beginning, and continue to inspire us with their unwavering commitment to the youth.

While we continue to raise funds and negotiate with partners for our Yellow School Bus Project in Ouarzazate, we are also active in supporting neighboring communities. Recently, we initiated discussions with members of the council of the Draa Tafilalet region to promote the importance of school buses in rural areas. We especially highlighted transportation’s impact on girls’ schooling, primarily in the Tilmi region. As a result, the council granted some vehicles to this area following CIFD’s advocacy campaign. We are thrilled that our awareness-raising campaign has had a concrete impact on students in the community, and cannot wait to implement and see the impact of our project in Ouarzazate.

Thank you for supporting our mission to bring education to every single child in Morocco. Please feel free to contact us with any questions, comments, and ideas.

As students prepare to return to school in the fall, CIFD is hard at work to ensure that all students have a safe and reliabe way to get to school. In conjunction to raising funds for our school bus project via GlobalGiving, we have contacted the regional government to discuss the possibility of arrying out the school transport project together, as well as other ways that we can collaborate to increase school attendance.

We have also collaborated with the Alliance for the Disabled NGO to support people with disabilities. We have provided them necessary equipment, such as wheelchairs, and implemented trainings that raise awareness of students with disabilities and their families about their rights to education and accessibility.

Lastly, we are currently preparing to distribute back-to-school supplies, such as backpacks and stationary to all returning students in the fall.
Thank you for supporting our mission to bring education to every single child in Morocco. Please feel free to contact us with any questions, comments, and ideas.

As we continue our fight for accessible education in Ouarzazate, we also continue our on-the-ground work to improve educational opportunities for the region's youth.

We believe strongly in creating and fostering partnerships in the community. As such, we recently joined the National Initiative for Human Development – a development project to improve economic and social conditions for the needy - to build a new athletic field for the students of the Ait Attou School - one of the beneficiary schools of the Yellow School Bus project. We also joined the initiative of the French Embassy to create a school library.

In our efforts to engage and mobilize community members to tackle local challenges, we will participate in the upcoming 5th Civil Society Forum in Agadir.

Thank you for supporting our mission to bring education to every single child in Morocco. Please feel free to contact us with any questions, comments, and ideas.

Gratefully yours,

This December marked one year since we’ve been raising funds for our Yellow School Bus Project via GlobaGiving. In these 12 months, you have helped us raise over $10,000 for our pilot school bus network in Morocco’s High Atlas Mountains. Allow us to thank you from the bottoms of our hearts for your commitment to bringing education to every single child in Morocco.

As we continue to raise awareness about the lack of accessible education in the High Atlas Mountains, we also continue our on-the-ground work in Morocco to empower non-profits and civil society actors to address all root causes of school dropouts.

We recently joined forces with the Moroccan American Forum for Relief and Development (MAFRAD) - a non-profit that works to implement relief and development programs in Morocco - to organize a solidarity campaign with students and families in the Tinghir province. Through the solidarity campaign, we were able to distribute 120 school kits among four schools in the Tinghir province. The campaign aimed to ease the financial burden on families to provide basic school supplies for children.

Our friend and partner at one of the beneficiary schools Mr. Mohammed Abou-said - the principal of the Ait Ali Ouikou School - had this to share about the school kit campaign:
"On my behalf and the whole staff of Ait Ali Ouikou School, I thank CIFD for their initiative in providing the schools supplies kits to students from low-income families, and their contribution to fight the dropouts specifically for girls in the rural areas.
Local authorities, residents, and NGOs echo Mr. Abou-said’s praise, and have expressed hope for our continued work toward eliminating the various root causes leading to school dropouts. It is our mission to soon be able to directly address the dire need for transportation in the area with the help of our planned school bus route. We are confident that we can achieve this goal with your continued dedication to this project.

Thank you again for your support and please feel free to contact us with any questions, comments, and ideas.

Dear Friends,

As children around the world return to school this fall, we at CIFD are working tirelessly to bring education to every single child in Ouarzazate.

We are currently partnering with communication experts at FocalChange to draft three-month, twelve-month, and three-year action plans that will allow us to enhance our operational, communication, and fundraising efforts for the Yellow School Bus project. We are continuing our work to further deepen the involvement of the community and the local government, allowing us to implement the project in a most impactful and sustainable way once it has been fully funded. Over the summer, we concentrated on planning community projects for the new school year and consolidating our collective achievements from the Yellow School Bus Project’s start-up phase. We are also currently identifying and recruiting new board members to further diversify our board, mobilizing diverse individuals with a passion for youth and education.

Now nine months into our fundraising stage, we sincerely thank you for helping us bring education to every single child in Morocco’s High Atlas Mountains. If you missed Zack Arias’s video for FujiFilm that features the Yellow School Bus project, you can watch it here. It is a wonderful introduction to the Yellow School Bus project and our community, and we can’t thank Zack and FocalChange enough for helping us share our story with you. Thank you for your commitment to ensuring Moroccan children’s right to education.

If you would like to support us again, one great day to do this will be the International Day of Peace on Wednesday, September 21. This will be GlobalGiving’s final Bonus Day for 2016, giving you the chance to magnify your donation with a match from GlobalGiving.

Thank you again for your support and please feel free to contact us with any questions, comments, and ideas.

Gratefully yours,

Hafida Aguozi
